Jimmy Morales – Incredibly stupid or just a flake?

jimmy_moralesJimmy Morales is either incredibly stupid or just a flake. While focused on defeating Manuel Baldizón, getting rid of Otto Perez and lynching Roxana Baldetti, no one bothered to check him out.

46 year old Jimmy Morales, who changed his name by deed poll in 2011 from James Ernesto Morales Cabrera, burst miraculously on to the local political scene in May 2015 with just a smug look and leapt to the front of the presidential race by repeating the phrases “I’m not one of them” and “I’m not corrupt” a few times, promising nothing.

Jimmy just smiled at everyone and reminded them, that he was the third rate comedian who had been humiliating and mocking them on TV for the past 12 years, with nauseatingly racist jokes. Enthralled, almost 1.2 million citizens, flocked to vote for him.

Here at last, was the “untainted one” and “honest messiah”, that Guatemalans had been desperately looking for to save them from themselves and the plagues of ravenous locusts, so many of their corrupt countrymen have become.

There were rumors that Jimmy was backed by the military’s semi-retired death squads, but everyone just ignored them, preferring to believe that this pleasant and innocent looking young man, who portrayed himself as their great white hope, would magically save Guatemala from the corruption scandals they were being bombarded with, on a daily basis.

No one is suggesting that Jimmy is personally corrupt. But . . . the men who founded his FCN party, are certainly the worst of the worst and to be feared.

The CACIF (Coordinating Committee of Agricultural Associations, Commercial, Industrial and Financiers), which is the public face of the 23 royal family cartels in Guatemala, along with their criminal cabal of military man-servants, who committed the worst human rights abuses in the history of this country during the civil war, must be rolling on the floor with laughter at how they have out-maneuvered everyone, with their FCN (National Convergence Front) party.

The FCN claims to be a party; “Ideologically based on God, love of the nation and family, individuality and solidarity. Reinforced by pacific coexistence, the duty of the State to look out for the common good, the protection of Democracy, respect for the Law, protection of private property, the right to work and a social market economy”. In other words pure fascist ideology. The Tiger of Ixcán & his Evangelical sons is a living example of  the “solidarity plan”.

They didn’t even have to spend any money on Jimmy’s brilliant first round victory and will reap a nice profit, as he spent less than Q2 million during the campaign and obtained 1.2 million votes. The TSE (Electoral Commission) is about to pay them almost Q19 million, as their legal entitlement for the number of votes received.

Following his spectacular win, Jimmy basked in the glory for a few days and then began to speak. However, everything that’s coming out of his mouth, is beginning to make him a general laughing stock.

Jimmy is a born again Christian Bible basher and has begun to ramp up his patronizing fundamentalist jargon in his tweets and postings on FaceBook, which is worrying.

He’s promised to create lots of employment and when asked the other day in Zacapa how he was going to generate all these new jobs, he said he was going to export lots of apples to the US.

On the 17th of September, during a live television interview, he suddenly blurted out, that if he became President, he was going to “recuperate the territory of Belize”, without utilizing violence or provoking a fight, because “the territory belongs to Guatemala”. A favorite subject of the lurking, dark fascist forces. Meanwhile In Belize, the locals have gone apeshit.

On September the 23rd, Jimmy and his team met at the Officers Club at La Aurora, where he was endorsed by the EXPAC (Expatrulleros de Autodefensa) who represent the 800 thousand strong para-military group, responsible for committing most of the atrocities during the Civil War.

At this meeting, Jimmy promised to give the EXPAC members an additional Q300 million each year over the next four years, for “tree planting and forestry”, which is what the EXPAC members are employed in these days, now that they are no longer enthusiastically maiming and killing unarmed Catholic indigenous civilians. Most are fundamentalist Born Again Christians.

In return, Jimmy was promised their 800 thousand votes. “I have information from all the military in Zacapa, the para-military and re-forester vote is solid”, declared one of their representatives at this meeting. Jafeth Cabrera, Jimmy’s vice presidential running mate, promised that; “The first day we are in government, I will begin making the budget modifications and attend to these requests”.

The Guatemalan military is basically divided into two factions. The slightly “liberal faction”, which is happy to have a pretend democracy while fleecing the state of all they can, as headed by the recently deposed Otto Perez Molina. The “fascist faction”, lurks in the shadows, loaths any form of democracy and believes the country should be ruled by the military and God, with an iron fist.

fcn_chartThe core of the “fascist faction”, are the members of AVEMILGUA (Association of Guatemalan Military Veterans) who were the protagonists of the scorched earth policies during the Civil War under the leadership of Efraín Rios Montt, since convicted for genocide, who claim to have “saved the country”, from Communism.

The TSE (Electoral Tribunal) has a series of serious political reforms before the Congress. The current President, Alejandro Maldonado, has called on the Congress to approve the LEPP reforms (as they are known), which are supported by the majority of different interest groups. Even Sandra Torres the UNE candidate, visited Congress recently to ask that the LEPP be approved.

Jimmy however, doesn’t want any of that. He wants to constitute a National Assembly to discuss any electoral changes, a tactic used previously by the dark military forces to sabotage any genuine reforms. A National Assembly was promised by Otto Perez at the beginning of his reign, but never done and Manuel Baldizón, promised a National Assembly during his campaign, when he won.

With Jimmy’s success, the dark forces behind the FCN have begun to gain courage and show their hand in a number of recent incidents.

The assassination by two hitmen on a motorcycle, of school teacher, activist and community leader Rigoberto Lima Choc in Sayaxché, Petén, who first reported the appalling contamination of the Pasión river by REPSA (Palm Reforestation of Petén), an ironic name for a palm oil plantation, owned by the Botran royal family of rum fame.

On Friday the 18th of September, three human rights workers, Hermelindo Asij, Lorenzo Mendoza and Manuel Pérez were captured and taken hostage by employees of REPSA, in reprisal for the order given by Judge Karla Hernández, to temporarily close all of REPSA’s operations for six months, while the causes of the massive contamination to the river are investigated.

That same day the Judge was threatened physically and harassed by senior employees of REPSA.

At 9pm on the 15th of September, 3 heavily armed men wearing balaclavas entered the offices of the indigenous Human Rights rights group Mamá Maquín in Fray Bartolomé de las Casas, Alta Verapáz and held four of the female staff and a 5 year old girl at gunpoint, while they specifically targeted the computers that held all their information on their fight against African Palm exploitation and the defense of their traditional lands.

Unable to immediately find the information they were looking for, they took all the computers, all their cellphone, photocopy machines and printers.

On the 11th of September 2015, Human Rights activist Sebastian Córdova Sajic, who’s title was Principal among Principals (Principal de Principales) of San Antonio Tisach in Quiché, was murdered by multiple machete slashes to the head, immediately after presenting a compensation demand at the offices of the National Program of Compensation, against ENEL (Enel Green Power Guatemala) the Italian multinational with local partner Pedro Brol, operators of the Palo Verde hydroelectric power generator.

Last week, Rigoberto Patzán, one of the community leaders opposed to the construction of the new Cementos Progreso (Progress Cements) plant in San Juan Sacatepéquez, was surrounded by 10 police, who had no arrest warrant and was beaten severely. Opposition to this cement factory, has caused various deaths and other community leaders are in prison. One of them, Abelardo Curup, was sentenced to 150 years for “terrorism”.

Antonio Rogelio Velásquez López and Saúl Aurelio Méndez Muñoz, from Santa Cruz Barillas in Huehuetenango, are currently serving a 33 year sentence for defending their community lands, against the rapacious monopolies.

Currently, there are at least 12 Human Rights activists in prison and a further 58, have arrest warrants pending for; “their opposition to the unfettered exploitation of indigenous community lands by hydroelectric producers, filthy cement factories, palm oil plantations and dirty mines”.

If Jimmy Morales wins the Presidential race, Guatemala is likely to embark once again, on a journey back to the future, led by a not very bright patsy and chump, plucked out of nowhere by the ever present and cunning, dark forces. It’s no surprise that even though he left his TV comedy show a while ago, it’s popularity continues in the ratings, scripted by his brother, so that proves he wasn’t the genius.

For me it is suspicious that no name of authors of this article are given. Serious accussations of recent violent acts are denounced to us readers, not to the law establishment, but with no resources of information, or even proves. It is a very radical article with a clear purpose of pointing fingers using derogatory terminology (“fascist faction”). As far as “The ghost that hunt Sandra Torres”, it is a more credible article widely supported and reported.

Wonderful (yet frightening) article. In all the elation over dethroning the present dangerous government we have given little thought to the future dangerous government. We need to put an end to innocent community leaders being jailed or killed…isn’t this how a 30 year civil war started in the first place?
